Martial Arts Tournament & Seminars!
Spend the morning participating in exclusive martial arts seminars with some of the top experts in the area, learning new skill sets that will take your practice to the next level. In the afternoon, join the open-style kata tournament and compete at all levels. Honoring the late Master Armstrong, we are excited to continue honoring his legacy with this tournament, along with the year’s special guest of honor (to be announced!)

• Doors open for registration/pre-registration checkin at 8:30AM with seminars beginning at 9:00AM.
• Students can participate in 4 classes total from a total of 8 topics (2 classes going on at once).
• Limited to AGES 16+
• List of seminar teachers and topics coming soon!
• Participants are encouraged to wear your martial arts attire, or comfortable workout clothes.
• Please note, photography and video by attendees or spectators is prohibited during the seminars. Thank you for your understanding.

• Tournament begins @ 1:00PM and is expected to last roughly 4 hours.
• Open to all martial arts styles.
• Participants can perform one or more of the following: empty-hand kata, Kobudo (traditional weapons), and Precision-Team Kata (five-person teams.
• Scoring is given by multiple judges and is based on: quality of form, focus, confidence, presentation.
• Trophies awarded for each division: 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
• All participants receive an event participation medal.
• Participants will perform kata (empty-hand, weapons, precision team) once each in two separate rings (two times total).
• Final score based on average score of both performances.
• Please note, there is NO sparring at this tournament.

8 AM : Doors Open
9 AM – Noon : Seminars
Noon – 1 PM : Lunch Break (food available on site for purchase)
1 PM : Opening Ceremony/Kata Tournament Begins

• Parking available in school parking lot.
• This event is wheelchair accessible and priority seating is provided.
•Please be advised and plan for the majority of seating to be on school bleachers.
FOOD
• Food will be available to purchase on location, with sales going to support this and future tournaments.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
• Children must be supervised at all times - there are NO exceptions. This includes at the seminars.
• A public bathroom is available at the school to use for changing.

CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF
MASTER STEVE ARMSTRONG
Master Steve Armstrong was instrumental in building the foundation of Isshinryu Karate within the United States, specifically in Washington State.
Master Armstrong was a pioneer is organizing and hosting large Karate tournaments, throughout the U.S. We hope this annual tournament will continue to honor his legacy and the Armstrong Isshinryu lineage.
CALLING ALL ARMSTRONG STUDENTS
If you studied under Sensei Steve Armstrong, we would like to personally invite you to join us at the tournament for our Armstrong Student Roll Call at the tournament’s opening ceremony at 1PM. We hope to honor his legacy as a teacher by recognizing the students who carry on his name.

No. This tournament is a kata only event.

We are grateful for the support of everyone in attendance to the tournament, and ask that they pay an admission fee in order to help fund this and future tournaments. Children 5 and under are free to attend. We look forward to seeing you cheer in the stands!

Yes. Each tournament participant will receive a 2023 tournament medal for participating in the event. For every division there will be awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for the top scores.

Tournament participants will perform their kata twice in total.

Personal photography and video is allowed at this event with the exception of the morning seminars.
Take advantage of the photo backdrop that will be set up in the cafeteria and snap a shot of your whole group!

Yes, bathrooms are available just off of the school cafeteria and have stalls for participants to change in.

Absolutely! Registration is available on site the day of the events starting at 8:30 AM. Both cash and card will be accepted at the registration table.

We are happy to announce that hot food and drinkswill be returning again this year thanks to our dedicated volunteers! You will be able to purchase things like chips, pizza, pop, hot nachos, chili dogs, and more. You can find it in the school cafeteria and there are tables and chairs for you to eat at. Please be aware that no food or drink is allowed in the gym area. All proceeds from food sales goes to supporting the production of these tournaments.
